This guy must have had some enemies

Losing your belongings may just be a keystroke away.
A pair of hoax ads on Craigslist said that the owner of a house in Oregon had moved out suddenly and that all his belongings - including a horse - were free for the taking.
When Robert Salisbury came home, he found people driving off with his stuff. He said he tried to stop them, but no one listened.
Police are investigating the ads and said all items can be returned, no questions asked.

Egg McMuffin Creator Dies

Guide to a Greener Blackout

This is a message I got on facebook about The Great Chicago Black Out on this Saturday.

With The Great Chicago Blackout just around 72 hours away here are some tips for more eco-friendly inebriation.DRAFT BEER. A pitcher or pint of your favorite beer might not have the same badge value as a bottle, can or forty—but it makes far less waste when you’re trying to get wasted. If you’re gonna have a few too many, be sure it flows from nice cool keg.BLENDING IS BAD. Consider your favorite concoction on the rocks instead. Any good Mexican will tell you margaritas are meant to be served over ice—not in it. And every year millions of watts of electricity are wasted turning your fine cocktail into a slushy mess. Not to mention the fact blended drinks make you look like an 18-year-old girl on Spring Break in South Padre.THINK GLOBALLY. DRINK LOCALLY. Getting to and from your favorite watering hole shouldn’t require a cab. The closer the bar the easier it is to stumble home. And you’ll be saving gallons of gas every time you go out. Not to mention much needed cash to help make your evening even more exciting.GO AHEAD HOOK UP. While the winter chill is still upon us, save on those rising energy bills by not sleeping alone. See that girl or gal at the end of the bar, they’re body heat is all the electric blanket you might need tonight. Buy ‘em a shot and see what happens. But be safe, the last thing we need are more mouths to feed.JUST SAY NO TO MOJITOS. I can’t really find a green spin on this one. I am just sick of seeing people drinking mojitos. Any bartender will tell you they’re a pain in the ass to make. And any barfly who has had to wait an extra 10 minutes for another round while some douche-tard who thinks he’s in Havana orders this glorified rum and soda will agree. NOTE: If the bar has a special mojito menu they’re fair game.
BREAKING THE SEAL. Don’t do it. I know it’s tough, but we all know what happens when you open the floodgates. If everyone could cut their trips to the can down by one every time they go out that’s approximately 90 million gallons of water saved annually in Chicago alone. Hold it as long as you can. Just be sure not to make an embarrassing puddle your friends, coworkers and complete strangers will be poking fun at for all eternity. You know who I’m talking about.GET READY TO BLACKOUT. The Great Chicago Blackout is this Saturday, March 29th from 8 – 9pm. Grab some friends and go to your favorite place to throw back a few too many. I hear the Relax Lounge is always nice. But any old dive or uber-club will do. Just be sure to shut off your lights and tip the people taking care of you.--------------------

Where can you find a good sandwich in Chicago?

Not only is Spring Fashion on my mind these days but my bf and I were discussing great sandwich places last night and it got me thinking.. wow, I sure do like a great sandwich in the spring/summer. I know the day is coming soon when I'll be actually able to eat my lunch outside again. I decided I would do a little research on the topic and report to you what places I found to be the best..

Here are my findings. If you have any recommendations, you should definitely comment!

Chicago's Best Sandwiches North of the Loop:

There are places in Chicago that elevate the sandwich to a new level. There is a variety of amazing sandwich shops, each boasting a wide selection of menu times along with fresh ingredients and quick service. And all for the fraction of a typical lunch or dinner on the town. Here are some fantastic sandwich shops on the North and West sides that you’re sure to want to try.

When searching for a great sandwich, one usually thinks of fresh ingredients, a wide array of selection, and something that doesn't take long to receive after ordering.

Panes Bread Café (located at 3002 N. Sheffield Avenue) specializes in all of this and much more. Panes is arguably the best deal in Chicago, offering a selection of nearly 20 sandwiches along with 10 salads, pizza, pastas, and more, with most everything right around the $5.00 mark. Yes, just 5 bucks. The menu also features rotating daily specials that include soup and vegetarian meals. Panes bakes their own breads daily, offerings include Tomato Foccacia, Rosemary Olive Oil, and a couple different kinds of Sourdough. Panes' menu has Mediterranean influence, as does their cute décor. You can order food ahead of time, or place an order when you arrive. You’ll wait no more then 10 minutes for your food. There is usually plenty of seating inside, or visit in the spring or summer and enjoy their outdoor seating.

Another solid sandwich shop on the North side of Chicago is Calliope Café. Like Panes, Calliope (located at 2826 N. Lincoln Avenue) is a quick and affordable alternative for local eaters in the Lincoln Park/Lakeview area. Calliope serves up traditional sure-to-please sandwiches like wraps and grinders, but also features a variety of unique sandwiches. Enjoy their “Fat Bastard” steak sandwich, the Buffalo Chicken sandwich, or try the Orange Barbecue Pork Loin. If Calliope’s entrée sandwiches aren’t enough, they also offer soups, salads, and appetizers such as quesadillas and spinach artichoke dip. Calliope also has an outdoor dining area. And, if that’s not enough, Calliope is BYOB, so it makes a great place for a casual date or a night out with a group of friends. For additional info including menus, visit http://www.calliopecafe.com/index.html.

Milk and Honey (located at 1920 W. Division Street) is self described as a “gourmet café”, offering sandwiches and salad, as well as homemade soups and pastries. Milk and Honey’s gourmet sandwiches include the delicious crab cake, grilled portabella mushroom, and the herb crusted roast beef fares. Unlike most of the cafes featured, Milk and Honey is unique as they offer breakfast as well. Opening daily at 8 am, they whip up everything from bagel sandwiches to egg dishes to pancakes. Also served are the traditional sides such as bacon, sausage and toast. A house special worth mentioning is their homemade granola, which is served with fresh fruit and yogurt. On the weekend Milk and Honey serves brunch until 2 pm. For more info, including weekly specials, menus and pricing, go to http://www.milkandhoneycafe.com/.

A bit closer to downtown but northwest of the loop you'll find Café Sandwicheria. Café Sandwicheria (located at 455 N. Milwaukee Avenue) is a quaint sandwich shop where you can find a filling, affordable sandwich. Offering cold wraps and sandwich staples such as turkey, ham, and chicken salad, Café Sandwicheria also serves up toasted sandwiches including paninis. They also allow you to substitute and switch around sandwich compliments to your liking. For an added kick I recommend adding the spicy peppers. The only drawback to Café Sandwicheria is that the staff usually consists of only one sandwich maker, so if there are a lot of people there, prepare to wait 15 minutes for your food. They do have newspapers, magazines, as well a TV in their dining area, and there are plenty of meters right outside if you plan on driving here.

The Deli Boutique is a lesser known, but equally fantastic newer edition to the Chicago sandwich scene. The Deli Boutique (located at 2318 N. Clark Street) is infused with Italian influence, offering a variation of fresh sandwiches served on your choice of breads. A must have is their monster sized panino sandwich, served on Turano bread, which they also sell loafs of in store. The Deli Boutique serves cold sandwiches on ciabatta, focaccia and the like. Or try their panini sandwiches, which are stacked with ingredients, then served up warm and crisp. Choose any sandwich of their menu or get one made to order. Along with traditional options, the Deli Boutique serves up olive mixes and Italian meats including prosciutto, or Parma ham, which is dry-cured ham that is a bit saltier and thinner than American ham.

Happy Sandwiching...

Johnny Depp movie Public Enemies needs EXTRAS!

The new Johnny Depp movie Public Enemies is looking for extras. Here's your chanve to do it. Only thing is that you are required to go to the far ass suburb of Aurora. I know, you're going to have to think about that. But, how much do you love Johnny Depp?

Male extras need to be less than 6"2' with a jacket size no larger than 44 and females shorter than 5"8' with a dress size no larger than 10.

If you want to do it, call Joan up at Joan Philo Casting at (312) 924-1840.

The movie, Public Enemies, will be filming at the Paramount Theater, which is standing in for the Biograph. Sigh. The film has already shot a bunch of scenes in Wisconsin and Indiana and is shooting in Chicago on and off through May, according to the Chicago Film Office.

Charlotte and Amanda have the same taste?!

Kristen Davis was spotten in NYC this week holding this cute Prada purse, very similar to the Prada Clutch I just got for my bday in February. So, I finally have the answer.. I'm totally Charlotte. On another note, I am highly anticipating the Sex and the City movie release and going to NYC next week! :-)

Chicago Spring Trend Report

I want to share an article I read on StyleChicago.com about the new spring fashion trends. This is a great article to keep in mind what's in for Spring/Summer 2008. I've been waiting so long for the days of spring jackets and skirts to finally arrive. Any takers on when that may actually be? I'm hoping by the 2nd week of April we can say bye-bye to hats/gloves/scarves for good. No wonder I've had so many scarves in my rotation this winter!

Before you know it, Chicagoans will be basking in milder springtime weather. What trends will you be coveting this season? StyleChicago caught up with some area style experts to get the dish on the trends from Milan to New York and how you can interpret these trends to suit your life.Scroll down to read more

Trend #2: Ultrabright Colors
Trend #3: Silhouettes and Playing with Proportion
Spring’s Standout Designers
Sheer Fabrics & Layers
“There definitely is a sheer story out there. I think what makes sheer fabrics look different this season is that they will be done in a cleaner, more modern way,” says Gregg Andrews, fashion director for Nordstrom.
The idea, says Andrews, is to use sheers in layers and to veil an outfit to make it work. Sheer doesn’t have to mean bare or see-through. Try layering a sheer over a print or a chiffon blouse over a camisole or tank top to achieve a chic look without the exposure.
Clare Hefferren, president of Callosum Creative Ltd., an image consultant for Chicago-area professionals, suggests taking advantage of the sheer layering trend to ease into the warmer temperatures.
“The layer can take us from our 40 degree morning commute to a 70 degree … lunchtime break,” Hefferren says.

Ultrabright Colors
Even if you’re the queen of neutrals and shy away from attention-grabbing hues, try adding some pop to your color palette with spring’s bright colors.
“Look for canary yellow, fuchsia and turquoise. These colors mix great with the basics in your closet – grey always works well to offset the brightness or even pair them with a fantastic black trouser,” says Heather Hackney, a denim buyer for The Denim Lounge.
Adding an accent piece to your wardrobe in a bright color is pocketbook friendly as well as fashion forward – a way of sampling the style without the huge investment.
“A great jacket or a colorful patent handbag” is what Marla Zegart, owner of Hinsdale’s Excentrique boutique, suggests.
Pictured Above: Bright Red Trench Coat from Marc Jacobs

Silhouettes and Playing with Proportion
Wide leg pants are back, which helps make the transition to spring’s trends an effortless endeavor. Proportion is something to explore this season, with trapeze dresses, full skirts and belts to define the look.
“They are very fluid, very flattering on lots of body shapes, especially women with a wider hip. The wide leg balances the wider hip and the line favors more petite women, making legs look long,” Andrews says.
“Someone younger might go with a full skirt that hits at the thigh, and for the office one might go with a skirt that hits at the knee or lower,” Andrews says.
To tie these proportion pieces together, a fabulous belt is all you need. Belts of all sizes, from ultra-skinny to wide corset belts are great for cinching a flowing blouse or balancing out a full skirt.

Spring’s Standout Designers
Our experts singled out a few designers who have done exceptional spring fashion collections this year, making it easy to find the hottest designers right here in Chicago.
For wide leg pants, head to The Denim Lounge. Says Hackney, “Hudson has fantastic basics as well as exciting wide-leg styles. We can’t wait for the arrival of the solid white wide-leg trouser and the pin-striped style coming to our store very soon.”
Andrews called out Donna Karan’s collection. “It looked phenomenal. She used sheers in edging and banding and really used neutrals in ways that looked different - more polished and sophisticated.”
Also noted were the modern femininity of Twenty8Twelve by Sienna Miller, the graphic prints and 60s-inspired trapeze dresses by Lisa Perry and the gorgeous silk tanks and blouses by Missoni with oversized florals.
As if the warmer weather isn’t enough to get you excited for spring, these fashion trends will definitely help elevate your mood.
“It’s a good season and things are easy to navigate,” says Andrews. “Things are looking fresh and easy.”
And what’s better than that?

Are you waiting for Gossip Girl to start again?

UPDATE: TV Guide has leaked, from an "extremely reliable source," that one of the male characters will be revealed to be "of the gay persuasion" on the show's returning April 21 episode.

Dan and Chuck were both bi-curious, to say the least, in the "Gossip Girl" novels but I'm thinking I suspect Serena's bro.

Helix shoots an entire film in a single take in Chicago

Lauren Conrad sets the record straight

Lauren Conrad took to her myspace page yesterday to clear up some rumors about an interview she did for an upcoming article. What she said is below. I really like Lauren Conrad and I wish the best for her. She is a smart girl with a good head on her shoulders. The only thing I question are the ass-hats she dates.

Can’t wait for the premiere episode of The Hills on Monday. Party at our place!

Hey Everyone........

“I just wanted to take a moment to clear something up. I recently did an interview to talk about the show coming back on and what everyone had to look forward to. Unfortunately it was turned into yet another "poor me" story. The article itself is a nice one but it follows headlines that, in no way, represent my words or feelings. I do not feel betrayed by Audrina or Brody. I love them both and said nothing to contradict this. I understand that headlines sell magazines, but I value my friendships above magazine sales any day.

On a more positive note, I got to see some of the first episode yesterday and it looks amazing. I’m sooooooo excited for everyone to see Paris. Best wishes and I hope everyone tunes in Monday.”

Celebrity Tell All Book Cancelled

Great Reservations: Two Concierges Dish About Outrageous Requests, Celebrity Encounters and Guests Behaving Badly at a Luxury Hotel has been cancelled.

Boo, I wanted to know more! The book was supposed to come out on April 15th but due to confidentiality agreements made by the authors this book won't be making it to Border's any time soon.

The book would have told you stories about celebrities and their hotel stays with some examples including John Cusack leaving dirty laundry in his room and mailed to him after he checked out and Nicole Kidman flying in 800 thread count sheets to only not show up at the hotel.

The authors are former Four Seasons Chicago concierges. If they have a tag sale any time this summer maybe I can get my hands on one of these, haha.

And yes, this post will slow your productivity at work. ;-)

The "Almost Summer" at The Drawing Room

Since we're on this Spring/Summer talk.. Here's a cocktail for you. Cocktails are on my mind because its almost the weekend! (finally!) I might give this one a shot this weekend. Here's one by Lynn House, master bartender at The Drawing Room in Chicago.

"A couple of weeks ago, I actually had a dream about our long winter and kept repeating to myself in the dream, "It's almost summer," House said in a statement. "It was a very vivid there's no place like home, Wizard of Oz-esque moment, but without the ruby red slippers."

This inspired House to create "Almost Summer" a special cocktail appearing for a limited time at The Drawing Room that created sensations of sand between tows and salty breezes off the surf.

"I woke up and decided to create a drink that would help me get through the cold nights, using glavors that refresh and evoke thoughts of warmer times to come," House added.

Make the cocktail for yourself below or head to The Drawing Room at 937 N. Rush St.

1 oz homemade rosemary simple syrup

3/4 oz fresh-squeezed lemon juice

1-inch piece seedless cucumber

1 egg white 3/4 oz Martini and Rossi Bianco vermouth

1-1/2 oz Kettle Citroen

Cucumber wedge garnish

Dice cucumber and place in mixing glass. Add lemon juice and simple syrup and muddle. Add egg white, vermouth, and Citroen. Shake ingredients vigorously. Add ice and shake again.* Double strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a cucumber wedge. *Don’t skimp on the shaking. Shaking the un-iced drink vigorously before adding the ice for the second shake is critical to ensure that the egg white properly emulsifies, giving the drink its luxurious texture and signature froth.

Weekend, where are you?

I'm not going to lie. I'm mentally checked out. It's Thursday, tomorrow is Good Friday and I still have to work. Is this fair? Definitely not. I would like a nice three day weekend. It seems as if everyone in the world, including myself, is in the "must escape cubicle" mentality mode today. This is why I'm being extra nice to everyone I'm talking/emailing to.
Just thought you should know.

Hello, Spring.. You've Finally Made It!

It’s the first full day of spring, and that means finally warmer weather will be making its way to Chicago! This means in a short time all the things we've loved and missed for so long will be back!

Here's a few of mine to get you in the spirit:

-sandals!

-summer dresses!

-sunglasses

-trips to jamba juice

-iced coffees

-hanging out at North Ave beach

and SUMMER CONCERTS!

So, today marks the spring equinox, which means we can soon bust out the picnic baskets all around Chicago. It's time to thaw out people and celebrate!

Well, don't get to celebrating yet because I hear a snizzle (snow/drizzle) is coming and we are on a winter storm watch tonight through late tomorrow. The rest of the week we can expect high 30's and we will peak into the 40's on Monday.

But if this forecast isn't accurate, don't get mad at me because I AM NOT A METEOROLOGIST!

Hopefully we will see some flowers soon!

I wanted to share this Craigslist post with you

This post made the "best of" Craigslist and I thought it was funny. Is this guy walking around shirtless in Austin now?

"Allright folks...I have this lovely, amazing rug made hade out of my evil ex-fiance's favorite shirts! My idea was this...I would cut them up and sew them together in order to make a mat to place under my cat's litter box. Seemed pretty deserving, right? But then I thought...when my ex left me for a 19 year old hussy, really he ditched Tony Montana (my awesome cat) as well, and Tony shouldn't have to walk on the ex's shirt day in and day out (even if it is only to do his kitty "business"). SO! I am offering you all a piece of history. This rug was made from 3 of my ex's most prized shirts, including an old school Beastie Boys shirt he got at a concert years ago. It really is something, and I spent a lot of time making it, so I don't want it to go to waste. What do I want in return? Well, I'm pretty broke. Our breakup left me essentially pennyless, but whatever. I'm willing to accept anything in return (extra points if YOU have a tshirt rug made from your evil ex's shirt that you would like to trade). Here's the catch though...you have to promise to abuse this rug. I mean straight up abuse it. Make it a front door mat so everyone can wipe their feet on it. Put it under your cat's litter box. Hang it on the wall and throw offensive things at it...I don't care. But if you could send me a photo of the rug once you've had your filthy way with it, I would be much obliged :D This is a small photo of the rug in question. It is quite large, and if you want, I have a couple more shirts of his that I would gladly attatch to this rug, making it much larger. If you would like a better photo, please just ask, and I will send one your way. But please, serious offers only. This is a work of art, and I am quite proud of it. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. "

Get Your Pillows Ready!

I got word that this Saturday is World Pillow Fight Day, and public pillow fights are being organized in cities from Beijing to Boise.

Similar events have been covered by the –ists before; urban public pillow fights are not a new concept. The Chicago Pillow Fight Club will be hosting the local celebration of Pillow Fight Day, taking place Saturday at 2 p.m. in front of the Art Institute.

Everyone is welcome
Wait for the signal
Don’t hit anyone without a pillow, or with a camera
Try not to hurt anyone
BYOP (obviously)
Chicago Pillow Fight Club also promises prizes for best decorated pillow, a costume contest, and a chance to win “Official Pillow Fight Club Member” pillowcases

This sounds like a fun event! Maybe I will decorate a pillow :-)

ING Direct Cafe in Chicago

Banking and coffee... confused? Whatever, this place is an addiction. Maybe its the retina-burning orange walls, maybe its the drink specials and discount mugs of coffee, maybe its the better-than-starbucks food selection, who knows. What is certain though is that there's always a place to sit, and if you can block out the business channel banter in the background, its a good place to hole up and take a break. The coffee is decent, refills are free, and so is the internet. And the staff has always been more than friendly (and, apparently, can help you with your banking needs.)

Below is a coupon for a free java. Enjoy!

Oprah's pet Sophie dies.

So sad news I read today. Oprah's pet Sophie died last week.

Having Francie now, I feel very bad for Oprah.

Sophie's cause of death was not announced, but Sophie was well into her teens which is old age for dogs.

The Bachelor: London Calling: Stacey represents Chicago

So, as my roommate Erika and I were watching The Bachelor last night we watched in disgust as Stacey (26, grad student) a bachelorette from Chicago competed against 24 other women to catch the attention of the British bachelor, Matt Grant. Stacey was one of the 10 girls that was sent home. Hmm, I wonder why she was sent home? Did anyone catch how classy this girl was? Taking her underwear out and sticking it in his pants. That's a sure way to win em Stacey..

“Stacey kind of freaked me out …,” Matt Grant, the 27-year-old Brit bachelor, says late in the debut episode, airing at 7 p.m. Monday.

Stacey was sure the desperate one drinking tons of cocktails, then passing out on a unmade mattress.

“He’s going to melt into my arms,” Stacey says. “He’s up for a little surprise.”

I wonder if I will ever run into her on the streets of Chicago. I hope I'm not intoxicated the least bit if I do. I have a feeling some not so nice words might come out. And she's totally the type that would hang out in the "Viagra Triangle."

Mmm.. Berrilicious!! Berry Chill Opens

Just in time for summer.. Haha.. Kidding.. Chicago's barely experienced a Spring yet.

I'm super excited about the newest thing to hit within walking distance of my work called Berry Chill. Fat and lactose free and high in protein (could you ask for more?!) Berry Chill offers flavors that rotate monthly.

They didn't forget about the awesome toppings either or the smart car delivery service. Do you think they will be able to find me on North Avenue beach this summer or maybe they can just deliver straight to my rooftop?

It's open til 4 am on Fridays and Saturdays!?! (I know where I'm hitting up buzzed now)

Berry Chill, 635 North State Street, between Erie and Ontario Streets (312-266-2445 or

Now All Those Sonic Commericials Final Will Be Worthwhile

Whoever the media planner for Sonic in Chicago is.. really doesn't do a good job. Everytime I see a Sonic commericial, I always want it but theres none in Chicago. Finally, I guess thats changing. Sonic is coming close to Chicago.. try Aurora.. A franchisee has initiated plans to put in a Sonic anchored by a Wal-Mart at Kirk and Butterfield Roads. Now, maybe I can finally try it!
